Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in raiding Wolverhampton Wanderers for impressive midfielder Ruben Neves this summer – and Jamie Redknapp has previously made a big claim about the Portuguese star.

The Daily Express have claimed that both Tottenham and Manchester United are interested in signing £50million-rated star Neves, 23, who has earned rave reviews over the past three seasons at Molineux.

Part of the promotion-winning side of 2017-18, Neves has gone on to become a regular in Portugal’s national team – and provides the creative heartbeat from the middle of the park in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Combine that with his stunning ability to score long-range goals, Neves is interesting Spurs. Back in February, Redknapp compared Neves to the way Michael Carrick used to shine for both Spurs and Manchester United.

Following a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, Redknapp was quoted by the Express as saying: “I just want to mention Ruben Neves. For many years I used to compare here and watch Michael Carrick, he [Neves] has that quality in midfield.

“The way he controlled that game in midfield. He stood out head and shoulders for me. He’s 22, 23 years of age I think. He’s a class player. The sort of player that no disrespect to Wolves, you can see him going to an elite level.”

TBR’s view – Neves would take Tottenham back into top four

Spurs have the attacking talent in Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn. They have plenty of decent options in defence, but they lack creativity – and goals – from midfield.

Harry Winks is excellent as a midfield anchor, while Gio Lo Celso is more of a 10, than a midfielder. Moussa Sissoko is good, but is hardly what Tottenham need in terms of creativity and goals from deep.

Adding Neves is ideal. Assists, long-range strikes but overall, a huge dose of creativity from the middle of the park would take Spurs back into the top four.
