Tottenham Hotspur’s main priority this summer is likely to be signing a central midfielder to finally replace the loss of Mousa Dembele in January. Reports from Italy suggest AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo will be that man.
Italian outlet Tuttosport have claimed that Spurs are ready to offer a whopping £43million bid for the 19-year-old midfielder, who has shone at Roma this season.
He has clocked up 33 appearances in all competitions, scoring six times including a brace in the Champions League last 16 against FC Porto. He is able to play wide right, and also in the number 10 role.
But Spurs face competition for the two-time Italy international’s signature. Indeed, the report claims Manchester City and Juventus are also keen, while Newcastle United have recently been linked.

Competition for his signature is fierce, then. Spurs need a helping hand, a trump card, in order to lure the midfielder to north London ahead of the current Italian and English league champions.
They might just have that – in the form of Kieran Trippier. The right-back was included in the Evening Standard’s report earlier this month, that stated 12 Spurs players could leave the club this summer.
He remains Spurs’ first-choice right-back, but the England international is beginning to drum up interest. Don Balon claim Roma are rivalling Atletico Madrid and Manchester United for Trippier, with his asking price set at £24.2million.
So, could Spurs use Trippier to win the race for Zaniolo? A player-plus-cash deal would have to be organised, but it would surely give Mauricio Pochettino’s side the edge over Juventus and Manchester City.
