Tottenham linked with star previously labelled club's 'best player' by Arsenal warrior
Tottenham are reportedly interested in securing the signing of Antoine Griezmann and a current Arsenal player has previously raved about him.
According to L’Equipe (Print Edition; 22/07, page 2), Barcelona have offered the World Cup-winning star to several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham.
Griezmann has obvious qualities. He can play in a number of advanced positions and weighs in with goals and assists.
Indeed, current Arsenal star Thomas Partey fancies the player as being a bit special. The pair played together for several years with Atletico Madrid.
During an interview with Marca in 2018, he absolutely raved about Griezmann, calling him the team’s top performer.
The Arsenal man said: “We are very happy Griezmann is still with us.
“He’s the best player we have and we are all looking forward to playing with him again.”
France World Cuo winner Bixente Lizarazu is also a big fan. He called Griezmann ‘fantastic’ during a recent interview with AS.
Griezmann to Tottenham: Unrealistic signing that Spurs will struggle to make
The Barcelona star wouldn’t come cheap to any interested party. He earns nearly £600,000-a-week at the Nou Camp and no Premier League club will be forking that out.
It has actually been reported that although Spurs want to be kept informed on Griezmann’s situation, he doesn’t have much desire to sign for the club.
The 30-year-old is a born winner. He has won league titles and also has a World Cup winners medal to his name.
You have to go a long way back to see Spurs lifting a trophy and it’s quite easy to see why a move to North London doesn’t appeal to Griezmann.
Last season he found the net 20 times, despite many calling it a poor season for the versatile forward.
Tottenham would perhaps be better off targeting younger options, with the hope they will improve over a longer period of time.
Griezmann is a short-term option that quite simply, isn’t particularly viable for Tottenham to make at this time.
Partey’s comments certainly offer food for thought but Griezmann to Tottenham doesn’t look realistic right now.
