Tottenham linked to £80,000-a-week star who Messi loves, fans should be buzzing - TBR View
Tottenham are set to be in the market for new players this summer, with Lautaro Martinez the latest star to be linked with a move.
According to The Athletic, the Inter striker is on Fabio Paratici’s list of potential targets should Harry Kane leave the club.
The 28-year-old talisman failed to turn up to training earlier today and speculation regarding his future is growing intense.
Manchester City are thought to be keen on the England captain and his departure would leave Tottenham short.
What’s the story?
Martinez could be allowed to leave Inter. Although he was in fine form during 2020/21, the Serie A champions would welcome a player sale in a financial sense.
That could see Martinez offloaded in the coming weeks and Arsenal are thought to be interested in the 23-year-old too.
The Argentine was bang in form during last season. He struck up a tremendous partnership with Romelu Lukaku, scoring 19 goals and claiming 11 assists.
Now, he could be on his way out of the San Siro, however. As a result, a fierce battle is expected to secure his signature.
Should Tottenham welcome Martinez?
Absolutely they should! He’d be a tremendous signing and at £65 million he could actually represent something of a steal.
Lionel Messi previously called him ‘impressive’ back in 2020 following some heroics for Argentina.
Martinez boasts tremendous movement and that makes him a nightmare for defenders to mark in and around the box.
As a regular assist getter, the £81,000-a-week star helps others into games and he has the attributes to light up the Premier League.
Tottenham losing Kane would be a real blow. If they do hold out for £180 million though, Martinez could make a viable replacement for Spurs.
It will take a special sort of player to replace a player like Kane. Although Martinez doesn’t have the same elite reputation just yet, at 23 he has the potential to be truly incredible.
With that in mind, Tottenham fans should pull out the stops to land Martinez and if they do, fans should be absolutely thrilled.
