Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur target, Pervis Estupinan, has been selected in the La Liga Team of the Season in what is an emphatic nod as to why the Premier League club wants him.

Estupinan, who has been with Osasuna on a loan spell from Watford, has been in exceptional form in Spain.

The 22-year-old will be due back at Vicarage Road in the summer. However, reports in the last few months have claimed Spurs are keen, with AS claiming in June that Mourinho was keeping his eye on the left-back.

La Liga’s team of the season – as reported by Goal – has some star and household names in it. The likes of Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, and, of course, Lionel Messi, are in there.

It shouldn’t, then, be underestimated just how well Estupinan has done in La Liga given the talent he comes up against.

Sessegnon will get there, Davies is good, but Estupinan offers something different

Yes, Spurs do have options down the left-hand side. Danny Rose is as good as gone from the club, but they still have both Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon to choose from.

Of course, Sessegnon is not yet the finished article and talk of interest from Madrid and Barcelona may well yet lead to the youngster leaving an opening in the Spurs squad.

Estupinan, then, could fill the void. Despite scoring just once this season, he has contributed six assists to the cause.

Furthermore, as Goal states, he ranked second for duels won, while he also reclaimed possession more than any other defender in La Liga.

The proof is in the pudding it seems with Estupinan. Watford, of course, will want to keep their man but with relegation still a very real threat, Mourinho may well be waiting in the wings. And rightly so.
