Tottenham Hotspur scouts would have been on alert over the weekend as reported target Denis Zakaria netted during the international break.

The Switzerland international is a target for Tottenham, who are aiming to sign a new defensive midfielder to replace Mousa Dembele, according to Sky Sports News.

And the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder showcased his ability with a complete performance for the Swiss, capped with a goal.

Zakaria scored Switzerland’s second goal as they triumphed 2-0 in Georgia in the Euro 2020 qualifying match.

He showed what he could do at both ends of the pitch, contributing to a clean sheet as well as getting on the score-sheet.

With Dembele gone and Victor Wanyama’s future in doubt, Spurs will surely be in the market for a defensive midfielder when the summer transfer window opens.

Zakaria fits the bill, having proven his worth at Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Bundesliga. Prior to that, he picked up more than 50 senior appearances in the Swiss league.

The 22-year-old is still very young but his experience will stand him in good stead if he does make the step up and move to Tottenham.

Zakaria has shown that he can be both a short-term and long-term fix in the holding midfield role for Tottenham, making him an ideal transfer target.
