Tottenham Hotspur could have done with a goalscorer like Jermain Defoe in their loss on Thursday night, instead, he was watching on from the sidelines.

The former Premier League talisman was a part of Amazon Prime’s lineup for the game on the south coast where Bournemouth sealed the points.

Ange Postecoglou had to deal with angered Tottenham fans after the Lilywhites were sent back to north London on the back of an underwhelming loss.

Tottenham were unable to find a breakthrough against the Cherries who are a far cry from some of the sides which Defoe used to come up against.

Outside of Amazon’s coverage of the game, Defoe shared his honest thoughts on who were some of the better defenders he faced.

Jermain Defoe says Rio Ferdinand was better than John Terry

Defoe shared his disappointment about Tottenham against Brighton earlier in the season and he may well be turning into a bad luck charm.

However, he was able to look back on some better times with Amazon’s social media side as he ranked some of England’s best players.

And in a TikTok challenge, Defoe ranked former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand higher than Chelsea legend John Terry.

Speaking about Terry, Defoe said: “John Terry, one of the best defenders I’ve ever played against.”

However, when Ferdinand came up during the blind-rank challenge, he added: “Rio Ferdinand, love that! Love Ri, again, one of the best defenders I’ve ever played against.”

This comes just after Ferdinand said Raphael Varane was better than Terry in a similar style video for TNT Sports.

Defoe played for a number of Premier League sides during his professional career as he earned himself a spot in the 100 club.

However, in Ferdinand’s United and Terry’s Chelsea, Defoe came up against two of the best sides to ever play in the Premier League.

Gerard Pique said Ferdinand was better than Terry earlier this year, and Defoe certainly did not enjoy his matchups against the former United defender.

Defoe certainly feels Ferdinand was the better of the two, but that is a debate which will remain open for fans across the country.
