Romano says it will take 'really huge bid' for Tottenham to sign 'happy' World Cup star

Tottenham are keen on signing Denzel Dumfries but Fabrizio Romano thinks they could find it tough to land the World Cup star.

Dumfries signed for Inter Milan in 2021. He’s established himself as the club’s number-one right-back and has made 65 appearances.

Now, he’s also the man in possession of the shirt on the international stage and Tottenham have been linked with a move to sign him.

It would seem as though getting a deal through could prove tricky. Romano has been discussing the player’s future on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast.

Romano claimed on Dumfries: “It’s absolutely not close.

“He has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham but the situation is complicated as the player is happy in Milan.

“At this stage, it will take a really huge bid for any club to sign him.”

Dumfries scored on Saturday as Holland defeated the USA to reach the last eight of the World Cup. He also set the other two up on a memorable afternoon for the player.

At 26-years-old he’s approaching his prime and clearly, Antonio Conte is keen to sign another right-back.

He’s not really been convinced by Emerson Royal or Matt Doherty and the Italian maintains that Djed Spence is a project for the future.

Tottenham keen on Dumfries but signing looks tough

Conte might be forced to do one of two things here. He either plays a waiting game, or he demands that Daniel Levy gets really serious and pays a huge sum to sign Dumfries.

It looks unlikely that the club will pay over the odds. That isn’t really Tottenham’s style and Conte could be left frustrated with this one.

Dumfries is having the time of his life at the World Cup. Holland face Argentina next and they will have the task of keeping Lionel Messi quiet.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. It has to be said, however, that Spurs now look to be fighting a losing battle over Dumfries.
