Joining a number of youthful English talents who are plying their trade in the Bundesliga, former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Keanan Bennetts has joined Borussia Monchengladbach.

Although a transfer to Germany marks a dramatic change for the 19-year-old, the bold move will prove to be the right decision for Bennetts’ development.

The England youth international is simply seeking first team football at a crucial juncture in his career, and a move to a club known for developing young talents similar to Bennetts is a logical decision.

West Ham United teenager Reece Oxford has spent the season on loan at Monchengladbach, making seven Bundesliga appearances for the German side. In addition, fellow Englishman and Crystal Palace academy product Mandela Egbo is on the books at the Bundesliga club.

The strong young English connections at Borussia Monchengladbach reveal the club is a favourable destination for young British talent looking for top-flight experience outside of their home country – exactly the situation Bennetts finds himself in.

Furthermore, a move to Germany also makes personal sense for the Tottenham winger. According to the Evening Standard, Bennetts’ mother is German and he represented Germany at the U-15 level.

This season, Bennetts enjoyed a remarkable campaign for Spurs’ Premier League 2 side, scoring an impressive seven goals and supplying four assists.

In the UEFA Youth League and the EFL Trophy, the teenager has a further two goals and four assists.

An exciting winger with a wand of a left foot, the attacker’s quality was on show during Tottenham’s Premier League 2 clash with Chelsea in mid-April.

Bennetts scored two audacious free kicks from practically the same position within the space of five minutes, leading Spurs to a 2-1 away win.

It is clear that the Englishman is an enticing young talent, yet despite his heroics in Tottenham’s U23 side, he is yet to make his senior debut for the club.

The transfer to a top-half Bundesliga club will hopefully present Bennetts with increased opportunities that he craves.

Although Spurs fans would love to see the winger stay at White Hart Lane, it looks unlikely that he will break into the first team anytime soon.

Following in the successful footsteps of fellow British talents such as Jadon Sancho, Ademola Lookman, and Oxford, Keanan Bennetts looks set to make the correct decision for his career after making the bold switch to the Bundesliga.
