Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has dropped a broad suggestion to Football London that Ryan Sessegnon might start in Leipzig this evening.

Spurs have travelled for the second leg of their Champions League game with RB Leipzig without Ben Davies.

When quizzed on Sessegnon he did imply that his chance to shine could be against the Bundesliga title hopefuls.

He told Football London: “Ben Davies is not here. So it is between Ryan or Jan Vertonghen to play left-back. Tanganga, in a match where we need to attack, I don’t think Japhet can do it as a left-back.

“Ryan can also give us options in attacking areas. He is basically a winger, so yes, we need everybody, especially without Steven (Bergwijn) who had adapted well and was performing very well for us.

“I think it’s time for Ryan to get his opportunity.”

Sessegnon signed for Tottenham in the summer and cost the club £25 million from Fulham.

The 19-year-old has found his maiden campaign at the club a bit of a struggle, although he has been unfortunate with injuries.

If he does get the nod to start the game tonight it will be his ninth of the campaign and he will hope to make an impact.

Sessegnon actually has a Champions League goal to his name this season.

During the last group game against Bayern Munich, Mourinho made several changes, with Sessegnon scoring in a 3-1 defeat to the Bavarian outfit.

The teenager is clearly one for the future and if he does get the chance to play he will hope to impress sufficiently to pile the pressure on regular left-back Davies.
