Ivan Perisic arriving at Tottenham could signal the end for Erik Lamela

Tottenham Hotspur haven’t signed a single player during the last two transfer windows but that trend doesn’t seem likely to continue this summer.

With the club set to embark on their first full season in their new stadium, some stellar recruits will be landed to raise optimism.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Spurs are leading the race to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Italian giants are looking to receive £30 million for the Croatian, although the report states that Spurs are only willing to pay £21.4 million.

It remains to be seen whether a compromise can be agreed.

Perisic has contributed five goals and seven assists for Inter this season and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the Premier League.

If Mauricio Pochettino does land the 30-year-old, things don’t bode well for Erik Lamela.

The Argentinean has started just eight league games for Spurs this season and Perisic arriving in London would surely spell the end for Lamela’s career at the club.

It is fair to say that the Inter forward would represent an upgrade on Lamela. The 27-year-old earns £80k-a-week (Spotrac) at Spurs so getting those off the books and replacing with Perisic would represent good business.

There is little to doubt that Lamela could still do a job somewhere.

That might not be at Spurs for much longer though.
