Report: Why Tottenham insiders are already panicking about what next season will bring

Tottenham might be in the mix to get into the top four this season but after the weekend’s loss at Manchester United, you’d have to say they are one of the more outside bets at the moment.

Spurs are now six points off fourth after losing at Old Trafford, with Arsenal’s win against Leicester City today further strengthening Mikel Arteta’s side’s grip on the Champions League spot.

Manager Antonio Conte is being left to bemoan his team’s inconsistency. It’s win, lose, win, lose for Tottenham at the moment and it is costing them in the hunt for fourth. And according to The Athletic, there is a growing feeling inside the club that Tottenham are blowing a huge chance this season.

The Athletic reports how those inside Spurs feel that teams like Manchester United and Arsenal will be even stronger next season. Beyond that, there’s also a feeling that Chelsea will ‘ride the storm’ at the moment and emerge just as strong for the 22/23 campaign.

Tottenham’s lack of consistency and also lack of January signings could well cost the club. And while a big summer lies ahead, that summer would be much easier if the club could offer Champions League football.

The inconsistency is mentioned but the other issue Spurs have is that the likes of Arsenal are looking increasingly better and have a game in hand.

Likewise, Manchester United will win games while Cristiano Ronaldo is fit. He showed his class yesterday, with his hat-trick showing everyone he is still among the very best.

The little panic at Tottenham reported here is no surprise. They have one of the world’s best managers, the best striker in Europe on his day, and yet still are nowhere near.
