Antonio Conte has told his post-match press conference – as per Football London – that Steven Bergwijn will be missing for Saturday’s clash against Watford. The Tottenham star was absent on Tuesday.
Bergwijn, 24, was missing from Tuesday afternoon’s 1-1 draw against Southampton. That is, despite the Netherlands international returning after a three-game absence in the previous outing – a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The ex-PSV man was afforded a 26-minute display against Palace. But on Tuesday, he was missing from the squad – with a calf problem proving to be the culprit. Tottenham could have done with his pace from the bench.
Dele Alli started on the left in place of Lucas Moura and had little impact. Speaking after the match, Conte was asked about the omission of Bergwijn – and delivered a blow, stating it is likely he will miss Saturday, against Watford.

“Yeah, yeah, during the game against Crystal Palace, he felt a problem in his calf,” Conte said, as per Football London. “Yeah, he was injured. Together with Lo Celso and Romero and Sessegnon.”
Conte on Bergwijn: Tottenham star takes one step forward, two steps back
The attacker cannot catch a break. In and out under Jose Mourinho, he looked as if he was the perfect type of player for Nuno’s counter-attacking system. But injury interrupted his game time with Nuno in the dugout.
Under Conte, injury has hampered his momentum and some murmurs have suggested that Conte is unimpressed with Bergwijn’s fitness. Impressing against Palace, another injury has come his way. Bergwijn is due some luck.
