Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Patrick Schick no surprise considering 2017 attempt

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Patrik Schick this week. The RB Leipzig star is currently on loan in Germany from AS Roma and La Roma 24 are suggesting that the Bundesliga side have failed in their attempt to get a reduction on a previously agreed £25 million fee.

Tottenham are therefore considering their own swoop of £25 million to bring in the Czech Republic international to give Harry Kane some genuine competition in attack.

This news should come as no surprise considering Tottenham’s apparent efforts to sign Schick in 2017.

The striker had just scored 11 goals in 11 starts during a loan spell at Sampdoria and clubs across Europe were increasingly keen on his signature.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the player’s agent Pavel Paska held talks with officials from Tottenham and Arsenal that summer. The Sun later suggested he had spoken directly with Arsene Wegner regarding the Gunners interest and chief scout Steve Hitchen of Tottenham Hotspur about a potential £21 million move.

Hitchen remans the head scout at Tottenham so the idea that Schick’s name is doing the rounds again should come as no surprise.

In 2017, Schick wanted to build on his early success In Italian football and decided to head to Roma instead.

Now, Tottenham’s chief scout appears to be back in the hunt for a player who could add real quality to Jose Mourinho’s attacking options.
