What a difference a few months can make in football. One clear example of this fact is Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial. The Frenchman has been in fine form, especially since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at the club. It has resulted in a new contract for the player. As confirmed by the club, Martial has signed a new deal until 2024.
In the summer, it looked like the Frenchman was on his way out of Old Trafford. His agent told RMC Sport that he wanted to go. Jose Mourinho was clearly not a fan. Martial, looked a goner.
Tottenham Hotspur were one team hoping to take full advantage.

Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino’s interest in the player has been long-standing. Back in June 2015, it was even reported that Tottenham had completed such a deal. France Football reported Spurs had reached an agreement over an £18 million move for the French attacker.
So with Martial seemingly available in the summer, Tottenham were always likely to be snooping.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Daniel Levy rang to enquire about the player in the summer but received short shrift from United chief executive Ed Woodward. An asking price of £75 million, as reported by The Mirror, was slapped on the Frenchman.
Tottenham have clearly been long-term admirers of the United man and, with Mourinho in charge, seemed to have a chance of securing the player.
However, his excellent form this season has now been rewarded with a new contract which surely ends Tottenham’s chances of signing Martial down the road.
