Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters has been discussing the impact of departing academy chief John McDermott this week and in doing so highlighted the sort of management style he prefers.
McDermott is set to leave his role at Tottenham to take up a new position with the FA. Walker-Peters, one of the players who has benefited from the work of McDermott at Tottenham., spoke in glowing terms of his acumen in conversation with the London Evening Standard.

The defender went on to suggest how he prefers his coaches to be tough and honest, rather than sugar-coating issues.
“He was always tough because he cared about us having careers. You prefer someone tough and honest over someone who sugar coats things.”
That certainly sounds like Jose Mourinho, a manager who is known to be fairly open with his players especially with his criticism.
But if the Portuguese was to be honest with Walker-Peters, he might suggest his time at Tottenham is up.
The England under-21 international is currently on loan at Southampton. Tottenham sent him to St Mary’s despite a fairly severe lack of full-backs of their own in North London.
It was the surest sign yet that, in the long-term, Tottenham do not see Walker-Peters as part of their plans.
Hopefully, wherever Walker-Peters does end up playing his football, he gets the level of honesty he is after.
