Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Roles staked his claim for a first-team promotion after his match-winning performance for the under-23 side.

Roles came off the bench for Tottenham’s under-23 team on Friday night to inspire them to a 2-1 victory after being one goal down.

The impressive young midfielder continued his fine form for the academy team and showed the stuttering first-team what they were missing.

It took the 20-year-old’s tally to eight goals for the season, while he has also registered six assists. These figures cannot be ignored as Mauricio Pochettino considers his younger options.

Roles has been a reliable and consistent performer for the under-23 squad and deserves a chance to play first-team football.

The Cyprus under-21 international clearly has a lot of natural talent but whether he can make the step up to senior football is another question.
