What would Tottenham Hotspur signing Eric Bailly mean for Juan Foyth?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on Manchester United defender Eric Bailly. The Ivorian, who cost Manchester United £30 million in the summer of 2016 from Villareal, has struggled for his best form this season and has subsequently been dropped by Jose Mourinho.

But, as reported by the Mirror, Tottenham along with rivals Arsenal remember what Bailly can do when in form and have decided he might be worth signing if United are ready to sell.

Tottenham are right to start consider defensive options. They have doubts over the long-term futures of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, especially the latter.

However, it would also send the wrong message to one talented youngster at Tottenham. Not Davinson Sanchez, he clearly has a future at the club. However, Juan Foyth will be left wondering what his future is should Tottenham bring in a new centre-back.

Tottenham signed the Argentine from Estudiantes last summer in a deal reportedly worth around £8 million.

In his fleeting performances last term, it appears Tottenham got their hands on a bargain. Excellent on the ball and capable defensively, the 20-year-old looks every bit the modern-day centre-back.

His hope will clearly be that the exit of one of Tottenham’s Belgian pair would see him move into the first-team picture.

The arrival of Bailly would certainly put that in doubt.

Tottenham must ensure they do right in the defensive position. However, bringing in Bailly should not be at the detriment of a top young investment.
