Tottenham Hotspur should stand by Juan Foyth who could become priceless

Tottenham Hotspur surprised many last night, by putting Borussia Dortmund to the sword at Wembley. Spurs romped to a 3-0 first-leg win thanks to goals from Heung-min Son, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente.

Whilst the performance of Vertonghen at left wing-back seemed to steal the show, Juan Foyth’s performance also had tongues wagging.

The Argentine had an up-and-down game but overall highlighted once again that he is a top young modern central defender.

Brilliant with the ball at his feet and sensational in a back-three, he is clearly prone to an error.

But Tottenham must continue to have faith in him. If he is too be compared to a current Premier League player, it is hard to look past John Stones.

Stones, who joined Manchester City for a fee reported by the BBC to be £47.5 million, is three years the senior of the Argentine.

But at 21, he was showing similar promise but also had a mistake in him. Everton fans could certainly vouch for that.

He is now in excellent form for the Premier League leaders, winning the title last season and is one of the first names on the England team-sheet.

If Tottenham stand by Foyth and let him develop by learning the hard way, they could reap similar benefits.
