In the summer James Maddison joined Leicester City, despite reported interest from several other Premier League clubs. One of those teams was Tottenham Hotspur. As reported by the Telegraph as far back as April, Spurs were in the running for the Norwich City midfielder. They had previously been linked during his stint at Coventry City and it was clear he was a player they were keen on.
In the end, Leicester got him for a reported £24 million, and it has proved to be a brilliant piece of business.
Maddison has impressed in the Premier League, with five goals and three assists from his first 19 Premier League games.
Such form even saw him earn a first call-up to the England national team under Gareth Southgate.

The London Evening Standard reported in December that Tottenham decided not to pursue the player as part of a strategy to move away from Football League recruitment. At £24 million, it was judged he was too big a risk.
Now, Tottenham find themselves in a similar position with Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen.
Sky Sports report that Tottenham are keen, but would need to pay £20 million-plus to sign the player. Bowen has been in fine form this season, with 11 goals for the Tigers inspiring them into what could turn out to be a play-off push.
Other teams are known to be keen on the player, however, and Tottenham will need to move fast. Deciding against Maddison now looks like being a mistake from Spurs in the summer. They should not do the same with Bowen.
