Manchester City appear to have a fight on their hands keeping hold of talented young Welsh international Rabbi Matondo. The 18-year-old speedster has, according to The Sun, rejected his latest contract offer from Manchester City. The report suggests that German clubs are now keen on the player. It could certainly be a repeat of the situation that evolved with Jadon Sancho.
He rejected a new deal at City and decided to move to Borussia Dortmund. The transfer has proved to be a big hit, with Sancho now starring in the Bundesliga and in the England national team.
So should Matondo’s uncertainty alert Tottenham Hotspur?
When Sancho first rejected a deal at City. Spurs were immediately interested. As reported by ESPN, the youngster wanted to join Spurs in 2017. Tottenham, however, were prepared to wait for his scholarship deal at City to end.
Dortmund were not and swooped in before Tottenham could get their man. That has proved to be a big mistake, with Sancho now valued at £100 million, according to The Sun. Matondo could provide them with the perfect chance to seek redemption.
The incredibly quick Welsh winger would undoubtedly see himself immediately compared to former Spurs star Gareth Bale. If he could go on to have anything like as similar an impact as his Wales team-mate or Sancho, then Tottenham must be in the running.
