Tottenham Hotspur picked up an impressive 3-1 win against Leicester City at Wembley today to remain in the hunt for the Premier League title.
Goals from Davinson Sanchez, Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son proved enough for Tottenham to take all three points from the game. Jamie Vardy scored for the Fixes, but also saw a penalty saved by Hugo Lloris.
Despite Leicester’s defeat there was a brilliant debut from one of their midfielders. Leicester signed Youri Tielemans on loan from Monaco on deadline day. The Belgian talent put in a fantastic display in the middle of the park for Leicester, His passing was impressive, his movement sublime and he nearly caught Lloris out with an outrageous attempt at goal.
Of course, he could have been a Tottenham Hotspur player. As reported by The Telegraph, Daniel Levy had agreed a potential deal and was awaiting a green-light from manager Mauricio Pochettino to sign the Belgian as a potential Mousa Dembele replacement.
However, as reported by Het Belang van Limburg, Pochettino was not convinced by the player and the loan with an option to buy deal was shelved.
Tielemans showed today that he could easily have been a good addition to the Tottenham side. His style of play looks more than conducive to the style of play Pochettino wants his side to play and it is certainly surprising if he did decide that Tielemans was not for him.
But in Poch Tottenham fans trust and hopefully Tielemans does not go on to leave Spurs regretting this decision.
