Lucas Moura has written his name into Tottenham Hotspur folklore with an outstanding display against Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.
The Brazilian scored a sensational hat-trick to win the tie for Spurs on away goals.
Signed from PSG for a reported (BBC) £25 million last January he is certainly an unlikely hero for Tottenham.
So unlikely, in fact, that he was reportedly near an exit from the club last summer.
As reported by The Sun, Tottenham were considering cutting their losses on the player. They claimed that Spurs had failed to be convinced by the player following his move and were considering selling him to Real Betis in Spain. It was so they could fund a move to bring in Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace.
The Spanish side’s vice-president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer even admitted to El Desmarque that the club wanted to sign the Brazilian international.
In the end, with Tottenham not bringing in any new faces, Moura stuck around and has a fairly undefining season at the club. That was, it seems, until last night.
Swap Moura for Zaha now? Tottenham Hotspur fans would riot.
