Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison. As reported by The Mirror over the weekend, Tottenham are eyeing up a move for the player as a potential long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen, who is yet to sign a new contract at the club.

Spurs were, of course, linked with Maddison in the summer. Leicester ended up signing him from Norwich City for a fee reported by Sky Sports to be in the region of £24 million.

The Foxes have undoubtedly been rewarded for their gamble as the young playmaker has been in fine form this season.

But that was not the first time Tottenham were keen on his signature. In fact, Spurs had tried to sign him from his first club Coventry City.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, Tottenham were keen on the player back in 2015. The report claims Harry Redknapp urged Spurs to sign the player and a £350,000 deal was on the cards.

That never happened and Tottenham might live to regret it.

If Leicester sell Maddison this summer they will undoubtedly want a handsome return on their investment from last summer. Tottenham are looking at paying a huge sum for the youngster, should they decide to try and sign him yet again.

Spurs must wish they had secured that bargain deal in 2015.
