Tottenham Hotspur reportedly keen on £50m Memphis Depay swoop

Tottenham Hotspur are looking into a deal for Lyon forward Memphis Depay, according to The Mirror.

The report claims that Tottenham have been tracking the French side for some time to keep tabs on the Dutchman and his team-mate Moussa Dembele. Dembele, who has previously been a Tottenham target both at Fulham and Celtic, has now been usurped by Depay as ‘the main target’ on Tottenham’s wishlist.

The report claims that Tottenham would be willing to spend £50 million on the player, who struggled during his previous stint in England with Manchester United.

Since then, he has rediscovered his best form and this season has 11 goals in 14 games for the French side, including four in four in the Champions League.

The report also mentions Manchester United’s buyback clause in his Lyon deal but it does not suggest the Red Devils are prepared to act on it currently.

TBR’s View

Tottenham are still perhaps lacking one more player in their attacking options, especially if Harry Kane gets injured. It is the reason why they were so heavily linked with Paulo Dybala of Juventus toward the end of the transfer window.

However, the team is clearly weaker in other areas of the pitch, for example at full-back, and Tottenham fans would much rather see the right problem areas addressed in the team before a move for Depay is lined up.
