Tottenham Hotspur must get to the front of £48m Matthijs De Ligt queue after recent comments

The Dutchman has long been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt saw himself linked with a number of big clubs this summer. With good reason as well. The 19-year-old is already captaining his club Ajax and is a regular for the Dutch national team. Strong defensively but also gifted with the ball at his feet, teams have been clamouring to take a look at the Dutch talent.

Tottenham Hotspur were one such team. As reported by The Sun, the Ajax star was being looked at by Spurs and was valued at £48 million.

This week the teenager has been speaking about the links, telling FourFourTwo he heard nothing about any interest in his services.

But It is great to hear him so happy to be linked with such clubs as Tottenham must ensure they get their hands on him.

“It’s nothing special, to be honest.

“There are so many tabloids writing things. I haven’t heard anything, so I focus on Ajax. It’s nice to see your name linked with those kinds of clubs, but if I didn’t hear anything, it doesn’t matter.”

Tottenham have doubts over the long-term futures of both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, whose current deals at Spurs are entering the final stages.

Davinson Sanchez, a former team-mate of De Ligt’s at Ajax, is looking a future star. But Tottenham will need another top defender in their ranks.

De Ligt is the perfect man for the job considering his age, style of play and ability. Tottenham must get themselves to the front of this ever-growing queue.
