Tottenham Hotspur missed a great chance to put some breathing space between themselves and their top four rivals by suffering late heartache against Liverpool.

Spurs will drop below fierce rivals Arsenal tonight if they defeat Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men had their chances to win comfortably at Anfield. Moussa Sissoko, in particular, was guilty of missing a gilt-edged chance in the second half.

The 29-year-old has come of age at Spurs this season, finally showing supporters that he is a very capable player on his day.

That didn’t stop him taking responsibility for yesterday’s defeat. He told the French media following the game that he takes the blame for losing to Liverpool:

Spurs fans were in sympathetic spirits towards their midfielder though and leaped to his defence.

Sissoko has featured in 35 games in all competitions for Spurs, proving a vitally important player.

For Spurs, it is now five games without a victory. That must be seen as a worry for Pochettino who desperately needs Champions League football to grace the club’s new stadium.

Following Sissoko’s comments, we rounded up the best reactions from Spurs supporters.
