Tottenham Hotspur-linked £27.5m defender deemed to have ‘all the attributes needed to have a very good career’

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Kristoffer Ajer has been praised by Celtic cult hero Glenn Loovens, who said the Hoops defender “has got all of the attributes needed to have a very good career”.

Norwegian outlet Sporten has reported that Spurs are ready to reignite their interest in the 21-year-old centre-back after his agent claimed that a summer exit from Parkhead was likely for his client.

Despite Ajer having two years remaining on his Celtic contract, his representative Tore Pedersen made the bold claim in March.

“He will not extend his contract with Celtic and will leave this summer,” Pedersen is quoted by the Daily Record as saying.

Teamtalk claimed almost two years ago that both Spurs and Borussia Dortmund wanted Ajer.

Now Sporten reckons the North Londoners could be back in for a player deemed by Tuttosport to be valued at €30million (£26.7million).

Ajer is highly rated at Parkhead and former Celtic ace Loovens is just one of his many fans.

“I liked Kristoffer Ajer a lot,” Loovens told the Glasgow Evening Times.

“He is big physically and good defensively, but he is also comfortable on the ball and quite quick. He has got all of the attributes needed to have a very good career.”

Ajer, who reportedly cost Celtic just £500,000 in 2016 (Daily Record) during Ronny Deila’s tenure with the Hoops, made a slow start to life at Parkhead.

However, he has since developed into an outstanding player and mainstay of Neil Lennon’s side, clocking up 49 appearances so far this season and 45 last term.

Spurs and Jose Mourinho like to use defenders that are comfortable playing in both a two-man and three-man defence, and Ajer has experience in both roles, making him a suitable prospect to don the Lilywhites shirt.

Celtic, meanwhile, stand to make a sizeable profit on Ajer no matter what, having snapped him up for such a reportedly low fee four years ago.

And Ajer, having won numerous trophies with the Hoops, might feel like he wants a new challenge – we will see what happens in the summer.
