Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club linked with a move for Shamrock Rovers wonderkid Gavin Bazunu. The Irish youngster has been linked with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Celtic this summer. However, according to the Irish Independent, Tottenham have made a £180,000 bid for the player. Any deal would go ahead next summer and the 16-year-old would sign a four-year deal.
It would be a coup for Spurs. Bazunu is already a regular for Shamrock and has not left school yet. For an outfield player that is impressive. For a goalkeeper, it is almost unprecedented.
But one Tottenham Hotspur player who won’t be enjoying this news is Belgian talent Jonathan De Bie.

Dubbed the ‘next Courtois’ by some, Tottenham’s 18-year-old is currently captain of the Spurs under-18s and one of their top young talents. After recovering from a ruptured spleen in 2017 he has improved year on year.
Signed from Mechelen in the summer of 2016, he is tipped by some to be a future Tottenham first-team option.
However, if Bazunu arrived, De Bie would no longer be the hot young goalkeeping talent on Tottenham’s books.
The Irishman, considering he has already played first-team football, would immediately challenge De Bie for that title and leave the young talent fighting for his North London career.
Next summer, De Bie’s contract runs out. At the same time, Bazunu could arrive. The Belgian will hope it is not a changing of the guard.
