Tottenham Hotspur fans revel as Heung-min Son dumps Germany out of the World Cup

South Korea sent Germany packing in the World Cup yesterday afternoon.

Germany are out of the World Cup after being dispatched by South Korea last night. With Sweden winning against Mexico 3-0 it left Germany needing a win against winless South Korea in their final group game to advance. They failed, losing 2-0.

Young-gwon Kim scored a goal at the far post, eventually given after the intervention of VAR. Then, it was Heung-min Son who wrapped things up. The Tottenham Hotspur man, who can likely claim an assist for the first goal as well, scored late on to kill Germany’s hopes. With Manuel Neuer pushing forward, the German keeper was dispossessed in Korean territory. A long ball was fired up-field and Son raced clear to slot home with his left foot.

It was a goal Son deserved for his performance in this game and in the World Cup in general. It was also one that left Tottenham fans ecstatic.

Yesterday saw Son linked with a potential move away from Spurs, with Sport1 in Germany suggesting interest from a trio of Premier League rivals.

But if Tottenham want an indicator of how much Son means to the Tottenham fanbase, they just need to check out Twitter after the Germany game.

Not only that, but Spurs fans were hoping his heroics maybe get him out of national service, a looming spectre in his Tottenham career.

But above all else, Tottenham fans were happy that Son put the final nail in the coffin of Mesut Ozil’s Germany hopes. The Arsenal playmaker, universally disliked among Tottenham fans, cut a forlorn figure in the game and there are now rumblings he may retire from international football.
