Tottenham Hotspur starlet Troy Parrott was shown a red card by referee Sascha Stegemann while representing Ireland’s Under-21 side on Thursday night – and Spurs fans are fuming on Twitter.

Parrott, 17, is one of the brightest prospects to come through Tottenham’s academy in recent years and was even given a first-team debut earlier this term – though it ended on a sour note as Spurs suffered defeat to Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

The Spurs youngster made his third appearance for Ireland’s Under-21 side on Thursday night in a qualifying match for the Under-21 European Championships in 2021. He had previously scored three goals in two under-21 outings.

But Ireland and Italy played out a 0-0 draw in Dublin, which saw Parrott receive a second yellow card for an altercation with Everton star Moise Keane – who was played for Italy. The Toffees summer signing was also shown a red card.

As seen above, Parrott pushes Kean out of the way in a bid to take a quick free kick, after being shown his first yellow card in the 12th minute. Kean retaliated angrily, pushing Parrott in the face. Kean was shown a straight red card by Stegemann.

But the referee also chose to show Parrott a yellow card, which saw both players walk off the pitch after just 64 minutes. Spurs fans are disgusted with the referee for sending their young star off, descirbing the decision as “ludicrous”.
