Barcelona’s thumping at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night has seemingly rang the bell on Quique Setien’s time in charge at the Nou Camp.
In fact, barely an hour after kick-off, reports in Spain were already suggesting that Setien was set to be sacked by the morning.
So who will replace him?
One potential candidate is former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino.
In fact, Cadena Ser have already reported that under fire Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has had dinner with the former Spurs manager who is now the favourite to take over with the Blaugrana.
Tottenham fans have certainly had a mixed reaction to this news.
Plenty are just happy to see that their former boss, a man who developed a kindred relationship with the Tottenham fanbase, could be set for such a massive job.
Others doubt the veracity of such an option.
Pochettino has previously spoken of his love for Barca’s Catalan rivals Espanyol, where he has both played and managed.
For some Tottenham fans, his move to Barcelona would essentially be like him rocking up at The Emirates one day.
However, Pochettino recently backtracked on those claims in an interview with El Pais and, with Espanyol relegated from the top-tier last season, the Argentine might be more open to taking the Barcelona job now he would not have to face his former team in La Liga.
So here is how Tottenham fans have reacted to the news Pochettini might be lined up as the new Barcelona boss…
It would be a shock. He said many times he hates Barcelona.

I wouldn’t, as new board coming in next year that wants Xavi. Bartomeu is on his way out.

So his integrity was amazing and now he’s backtracking on it. I don’t like that. Not saying he shouldn’t manage Barca but he’s taking back his word. That mean Arsenal is an option too? Guess we sacked him so why not!

I hope he gets the gig at barca it will better him as a manager
— Nathan Eres (@NathanEres16) August 14, 2020
In fairness, things have changed a bit since then. Assume he will take the Barca job if offered. Best of luck to him.

Good for Poch. Going to have some serious pressure on him, but what an opportunity.

Barca job is a rebuild job – which suits him perfectly.

I’m backing our current manager but we never should have let Poch go. He was the one person ringing the danger bell when the board et al we’re counting cash. I don’t want Poch at Barca.m but if he went there I’d support him.
