So just 24 hours after revelling in the defeat of their North London rivals Arsenal have pulled off a fantastic first-leg result against AC Milan in the Europa League.
Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey were enough for Arsenal to claim a 2-0 win against the in-form Italian side. Milan have been resurgent in recent weeks under new manager Gennaro Gattuso but it was hard to see how based on the evidence of this game.
Arsenal played well and deserve credit for the win, but Milan were hardly a test for the Gunners at the San Siro.
Last night Tottenham were sent crashing from the Champions League by Italian opposition. Juventus got the better of Spurs at Wembley, winning 2-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.
It was a result that Arsenal fans thoroughly enjoyed. English fans no longer seem to support English clubs in Europe like they once did, rather they enjoy the downfall of their local rivals.
So it was no surprise to see Tottenham again being mentioned tonight, after Arsenal’s much better result in Europe.
Tottenham fans quickly responded. Many a Spurs fan was quick to point out what night it was. Whilst Tottenham have been playing the likes of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus this season Arsenal have faced teams such as Koln, Ostersunds and Red Star Belgrade.
Some other Tottenham fans were more interested in watching their favourite soap then bothering to see what Arsenal are up to…
Quick reminder for Arsenal fans:

I’ve never been mad about losing, I only get mad due to the manner in which we lose, can’t remember the last time we lost & put the loss down to a lack of effort & energy. Unlike the case with Arsenal week on week. #THFC

@SpursOfficial were knocked out of the @ChampionsLeague by @juventusfc, Serie A champions for the last six seasons, who currently sit 2nd in Serie A, a mere 24 points & +41 GD ahead of @acmilan down in 7th, who @Arsenal faced tonight.#perspective #COYS pic.twitter.com/GrasXIhuAv

But Tottenham fans must remember to not get caught up in this fan warfare, as must Arsenal fans. It is one of the uglier sides of football which would happily die out.
Just last season Tottenham were dumped out of the Europa League by Belgian side Genk. Now they are wondering how they lost to Juventus. Spurs have come a long way and, despite results this week, are currently the better team with the more content fanbase.
One tweet sums it up perfectly…

Tottenham must go on from here, ensure they finish in the top four and push for the FA Cup.
Next season, they can try again in the Champions League.
