Tottenham Hotspur full-back Serge Aurier has been slammed by former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane.
Tottenham lost 2-1 against Liverpool at Anfield today after a shocking piece of defending allowed Mo Salah to score the winning penalty.
After initially being caught out of position, Aurier did well to catch up to Sadio Mane and make a challenge. However, his over-exuberant attempt at a clearance was poor and he felled the Senegalese striker giving Liverpool a chance to take the lead from 12 yards, Salah obliged, undoing the good work of Mauricio Pochettino’s men, especially a sensational display from goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
Keane was less than impressed as a studio guest for Sky Sports, as reported by the Irish Sun.
“Listen, this guy (Aurier), he’s a car crash, isn’t he?
“We almost felt five minutes before he done it what he was going to do…
“Mane’s clever here, he’s sharp, but you’ve also got to know the player you’re up against and he knew exactly what was going to happen.
“We felt it in the studio right before it was going to happen. This full-back, he’s a disaster.”
Tottenham fans did not need Keane to tell them just how bad Aurier is. The Ivorian, who can be a real threat going forward, has been a complete liability for Tottenham at right-back for some time.
However, Tottenham are stuck with the ‘car crash’ defender as they sold Kieran Trippier in the summer and did not replace the England international.
The more time that passes with Aurier at right-back, the more that looks like a cataclysmic error from Tottenham.
