Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a move for Croatian forward Ante Rebic, according to reports. SportBild reports, as relayed by Football.London, that Spurs are keen on signing the Eintracht Frankfurt attacker this summer.
The left-winger, who can also play as a striker, scored nine goals for the Bundesliga side last season including two in the German Cup final win over Bayern Munich.
His current loan spell at the club becomes permanent on the 1st July but Tottenham are said to be hopeful they can convince Frankfurt to cash in immediately.
Rebic is currently on international duty with Croatia, so fans can take a look at him in action when his nation takes on Argentina this evening.
Which is more than what Andre Villas-Boas had done when Spurs were first linked with Rebic.
Before a move to Fiorentina, the attacker was one of Croatian domestic football’s star talents with RNK Split. Many teams were then being linked with the player, including Tottenham. In fact, Spurs were considered front-runners for his signature.
However, Tottenham’s manager at the time, trolled Rebic when asked of any potential interest. As reported by talkSPORT the Portuguese had this to say in May 2013:
“Rebic? I have no idea who this player is, I’m sorry.
“I don’t know where this news has come from. No disrespect to the player but he’s not someone I’m looking at.”
It was a brutally honest assessment of a transfer rumour from AVB but Rebic will now surely be known to the 40-year-old, who is currently pursuing his hobby in off-road motorsports.
Tottenham fans will now wonder just how much current boss Mauricio Pochettino knows about this latest transfer rumour.
