Tottenham Hotspur cannot be considered ‘below’ Adrien Rabiot’s level now

Tottenham Hotspur are just one of many teams said to hold an interest in the signature of Adrien Rabiot this summer. The French midfielder is approaching the end of his contract at PSG and has fallen foul with club management. He is, therefore, free to join a new club this summer and Spurs are keen.

However, as reported by ESPN in December, Rabiot swiftly ruled out Tottenham from his thinking. The report claimed Rabiot felt the club were ‘below’ his level.

However, surely events of the past week must have softened that feeling.

Tottenham Hotspur are into the Champions League final after defeating Ajax 3-2 in Amsterdam under incredible circumstances. That clearly highlights the potential at Tottenham under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The fact Rabiot’s former team-mate Lucas Moura scored the hat-trick that enabled the Tottenham miracle could also help the bargaining power of Spurs.

Seeing another previously underappreciated PSG player take Tottenham into European football’s showpiece will surely have Rabiot thinking of Tottenham in a more favourable light five months removed from his previous dismissal.

Tottenham must, at least, test that theory.
