Over the weekend it was reported that Tottenham Hotspur were keen on the signature of Wilmar Barrios. The Colombian was first linked with Spurs in the summer. The reports suggested Mauricio Pochettino was a fan of the player and that he was being scouted during the World Cup. The Sun suggested Tottenham would be interested in signing him for a fee of £25 million.
However, reports today suggested that this was far from the case. ESPN report that Tottenham have no interest in signing the player. In fact, according to their sources, they have never been keen and no scouting went on at the World Cup.
Which is the correct decision.
Tottenham Hotspur certainly need a new central midfielder. The club have looked shirt in the area for some time and Mousa Dembele is set to leave.

But Barrios is simply not what they need. Tottenham need to bring in a player with more technical proficiency than the Boca Juniors bruiser.
Barrios, at 25, still has not played in European football and Tottenham would be rolling the dice on his ability to adapt to the Premier League.
Tottenham need more respected and compatible options, even if they do come at a higher price, if they are to realistically end their wait for silverware.
