Tottenham would be foolish to let trio leave without adequate replacements

Sky Sports reported on Thursday that Tottenham Hotspur were open to listening to offers for Mousa Dembele, Toby Alderweireld, and Danny Rose.

However, Spurs would be foolish to let the high-profile trio leave this summer without adequate replacements, leaving Spurs’ squad severely depleted— with the club still to make a signing.

The contracts of Alderweireld and Dembele both are set to run out next summer, which makes the prospect of selling the Belgians a reasonable one.

Yet, to move on two players who have formed an integral part of Tottenham’s central spine in recent years would be misguided, without players coming in.

Although the centre-half featured sparsely last season after a falling out with Mauricio Pochettino, Alderweireld is still a top-class defensive option and can not simply be replaced in the pecking order by the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Dembele was one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League last season, with no player able to replicate his impressive defensive skills and driving attacking runs.

If Spurs were to sell Dembele without a proper replacement, then their midfield would be extremely thin when compared to other supposed title contenders.

With regard to Danny Rose, a sale to a fellow Premier League club would harm Spurs by granting a rival with a left-back who still possesses searing pace and attacking nous.

In all, the sales of the trio would not be a disaster if Tottenham had shown ambition in the transfer market and acquired vital replacements in these key positions.

However, the lack of signings to date makes the mooted departure of three experienced performers a gloomy prospect for the north Londoners.
