Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Benfica attacker Jota ahead of the summer window – but they have to agree a deal before the 19-year-old signs a new contract.
Portuguese outlet A Bola claim Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing the Portugal Under-21 international this summer. He currently has a release clause worth around £25million.
Jota is regarded as one of Benfica’s best up-and-coming talents. He has come through the academy to make four senior appearances already. A winger, he has scored seven goals and created seven more in 44 games for Benfica B.
His breakthrough has been met with interest. Tottenham are keen to lure the Portuguese ace to north London, with Mauricio Pochettino renowned for his preference to bring through younger players.

But Daniel Levy has to move as soon as possible. That is because Jota’s clause has a release clause at £25million, but that could soon change if the report is to be believed.
A Bola claim Benfica are looking to offer Jota a new contract, despite his current deal ending in the summer of 2022. If they agree such a contract, his release clause will rise exponentially.
It is believed that Benfica are looking to insert another release clause, but one worth an astronomical £85million. That would put Spurs out of the running, and question marks remain whether he would be worth such a fee.
If Spurs are serious about signing Jota, they must move almost instantly to avoid Jota having such an enormous price tag. At £25million, he is much more affordable.
