Tottenham have just submitted a bid to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona – a player who once said he wants to play for Arsenal.
That is according to Gerard Romero.
So, what is the situation involving Frenkie de Jong and Tottenham? Let’s take a look…
Tottenham bid for Frenkie de Jong
Well – according to Romero – Spurs have made an offer worth €60m (£51m) for the Netherlands international.
The reliable Spanish journalist added on Twitch that Tottenham have offered De Jong a four-year contract which gives him the chance to match his salary at Barcelona if he triggers specific objectives.

It makes sense for Tottenham to offer the Dutchman a heavily incentivised contract, as he currently earns a basic wage of £231,000-a-week at the Camp Nou.
De Jong has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona so far this season, scoring one goal.
Frenkie de Jong wanted to join Arsenal
Interestingly, the 26-year-old actually envisaged himself playing for Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal.
Speaking to Voetbal International back in 2019, De Jong said: “In my mind, I have had the following list for a long time. Ajax, Arsenal, Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route.”
The Arkel-born maestro’s plan was somewhat scuppered when Barcelona came calling ahead of schedule, sealing a £65m deal with Ajax back in January 2019.

Now – however – with the Spanish giants in need of cash this summer, De Jong could be sold.
Raphinha is another player who has apparently been put up for sale – with Tottenham also keen on the Brazilian.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen in the summer.
