Report: Paratici has now spoke to £29m midfielder’s agent, Tottenham want to sign him this month

According to reports from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Juventus about potentially signing their midfielder, Weston McKennie, this month.

McKennie is one of a number of midfield players on the radar of Spurs at the moment. Indeed, reports in the last few weeks have suggested Tottenham have already had a bid knocked back for the USA international. It’s claimed Juventus value the midfielder at around the £29m mark.

Football.London claim that Fabio Paratici has indeed made contact with McKennie’s representatives. However, it’s also suggested that a move in January is unlikely, with Juventus needing to be super careful about who they let leave this month.

McKennie, 23, has been linked with a move to England on more than one occasion in the past. He has been a regular for Juve this season, making 17 Serie A appearances. Known for being all-action in the middle of the park, McKennie very much ticks a lot of boxes that Antonio Conte wants from his midfielders. Indeed, he was branded ‘relentless’ by his former manager, Tab Ramos.

Leeds United have also expressed an interest in McKennie this month. However, the Whites seem even less likely than Spurs to get a deal done.

TBR’s View: McKennie Would Be Great Under Conte

We can already see that Conte wants players full of energy and intensity in his team, and Weston McKennie is certainly in that bracket of player.

McKennie is already established at Juventus but at just 23, he has even more room for improvement. This is what makes him such an attractive signing for Spurs. But, once again, it’s down to the selling club.

Tottenham would probably pay the money for McKennie. But Juve hold all the cards really, and they don’t have a need to sell a first-team regular. Unfortunately for Spurs and Paratici, this one might have to wait.
