Tottenham have Barnes in their sights despite nightmare Wembley performance

Promising Leicester winger Harvey Barnes is on a list of players Tottenham have been looking at with a view to a summer swoop, according to the Guardian.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a hugely impressive loan spell with West Brom in the early part of the season, causing Claude Puel to recall him in January.

And the young English winger has gone from strength to strength, showing his quality and versatility in the top flight – which has reportedly got Spurs’ attention.

But when Spurs got the chance to see Barnes up close in February, the winger fluffed his lines somewhat, missing three clear chances which would have sealed a Wembley win with the Foxes.

But that shouldn’t put Tottenham off signing him this summer, even if that impression is likely to linger in the minds of fans.

Barnes is a tenacious, bullish winger who can also play as a number ten, capable of driving forward at pace and is one of a vast number of young English talents coming through at present.

But Barnes has taken to life in the Premier League impressively, playing well against Manchester United especially, and while some Spurs fans may hope that their club will shop for more premium players, they could do worse than invest in young English talent like Barnes.
