Tottenham have an interest in signing £20m player from Everton

Tottenham have already signed a new centre-back this month, but they’re still scouring the market for other options.

Indeed, despite the signing of Radu Dragusin, Spurs still only have three senior centre-backs on their books right now, and they could probably do with one more addition.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has named one player who Spurs could look at, claiming that the idea that Tottenham have an interest in Everton’s Ben Godfrey is true. Although, that being said, he doesn’t expect this move to happen this month.

Tottenham have an interest in Godfrey

Jones shared what he knows about the £20m Everton man.

“Ben Godfrey at Everton, he’s played two games so far this season and he can’t get a game because of Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite. There has been talk of a transfer for a while, particularly the links with Tottenham, which are true, they are real and they have a level of interest in him, but I’m not sure that will happen this month,” Jones said.

Could be useful

Ben Godfrey doesn’t quite work in a Sean Dyche team due to his height.

Godfrey is only 6ft, and while that isn’t short by any stretch of the imagination, he’s not exactly a goliath like Tarkowski or Branthwaite.

In an ultra-physical Dyche team, Godfrey isn’t of much use, but in an Ange Postecoglou side that prioritises technical ability and pace, Godfrey could rediscover his best form.

Godfrey’s key attributes are that he’s fast and he’s good on the ball, but he doesn’t get to show that at Everton.

However, in this positive Spurs team that play with such a high line, Godfrey could be of use to this Tottenham team, and if an opportunity presents itself to the north London club, perhaps they should take it.
