Tottenham fans rip into Harry Winks after poor performance in Newcastle defeat

Tottenham Hotspur were surprisingly beaten by Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday. Joelinton scoring in the first half to ensure a disappointing day for last season’s Champions League finalists.

The Magpies had not claimed a single point from their first two league fixtures and headed to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a hiding to nothing.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were expected to roll Bruce’s men over with relative ease but that never transpired.

On another day Tottenham might have been awarded two penalty kicks. Mike Dean and VAR not picking up a clear foul from Jamaal Lascelles on Harry Kane.

The result sees Pochettino’s team lose vital early ground on Liverpool and Manchester City, who once again look like being the standout teams in the division.

Tanguy Ndombele missed the game against Newcastle and that allowed Harry Winks the chance to shine in midfield, alongside Moussa Sissoko.

It’s fair to say that Tottenham supporters weren’t overly satisfied with the performance of the 23-year-old during the 1-0 reverse.

The £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) player played the full 90 minutes for the first time during the 2019/20 campaign but looked somewhat out of sorts.

Here is a selection of tweets from Tottenham fans reacting to Winks’ performance against Newcastle on Sunday:
