Stoke City want to sell outcast striker Saido Berahino as soon as possible, according to the Daily Mail.
They report that the Potters have lost patience with the 25-year-old hitman and want to offload him as soon as the summer transfer window opens.
Berahino’s career has fallen a long way in recent seasons, and at his best, Tottenham were very keen to secure his services.
The Guardian reported that Spurs were willing to pay £25m for Berahino in 2015 and returned to swoop again for the striker the following summer.
That underlines the talent that Berahino has; Mauricio Pochettino wanted him to boost Tottenham’s striking options at around the time Harry Kane was bursting onto the scene.
But while Kane has worked tirelessly and is now the best centre-forward in the world, Berahino has had his problems off the field and hasn’t been able to capitalise on his undoubted quality.
For a side that is as frugal as Tottenham, spending £25m on Berahino would have been a huge outlay and given his inability to knuckle down and progress, missing out on him now looks like a lucky escape.
Perhaps Pochettino would have got him to knuckle down but it’s more likely that he would have been an expensive mis-step.
