Former Tottenham star Clive Allen has told talkSPORT that he would love to see Gareth Bale back in a Spurs shirt.
Allen made 105 appearances for Spurs scoring 60 goals in the early ’80s and he thinks the club would make a big statement by landing their former player.
The Welshman has spent the last five-and-a-half years with Real Madrid, having joined from Spurs for £85 million, according to BBC Sport.
Despite netting 101 goals in 222 appearances and creating 63 more in the way of assists, he has never really been accepted by the Madrid faithful.
The 29-year-old has four years to run on his contract but his agent has claimed that he may move on if the jeers continue.
In an exclusive interview on talkSPORT, Jonathan Barnett stated that Bale is upset with the constant criticism and could walk away.
That could alert Spurs towards his availability and Allen believes it would be a great move.
He told talkSPORT: “I would love to see it happen.
“Gareth Bale coming back to Spurs, with the new stadium and the way the club is moving forward, I think it would be a massive statement.”
The 29-year-old netted 42 goals in 146 appearances for Spurs prior to moving to the Spanish capital.
Allen who has held various coaching roles at Spurs worked with Bale and he believes the treatment from the Madrid fans is unjust.
He continued: “We don’t appreciate him enough. What he has produced at Real Madrid has been nothing short of exceptional.
“I think Gareth has been unfairly treated at Real Madrid. It’s just incredible the way they feel about him.”
Should Bale become available for transfer it would surely interest Spurs.
They will need to add to their squad during the summer if they are to continue challenging for the title.
As a result, re-signing the Welsh forward would see them get their hands on the star recruit that they are so desperately craving.
It remains to be seen whether Pochettino will act in the summer.
