Tottenham forward Troy Parrott needs to stay patient after cup exit

Troy Parrott is a Tottenham player widely discussed by supporters, but clearly isn’t up to the level that senior manager Jose Mourinho wants just quite yet.

The 18-year-old striker is a rising star to come out of the academy, which is why injuries to both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son appeared to open a space for him in the first-team.

But the Irishman has been given just three substitute appearances from the bench under Mourinho and it may be a surprise to see much more of him during the remainder of this season.

The teenage forward has been given late cameos in Premier League fixtures against Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers, while he came on in the FA Cup fifth round defeat to Norwich City in midweek during extra-time.

Parrott was unable to make much of an impact in the contest, while in the penalty shootout he missed one despite being brave enough to step up.

The fact that he wasn’t used until extra-time proves where he sits in Mourinho’s thinking, which is why he would do well to get many more minutes in the remaining Premier League and Champions League fixtures.

Parrott shouldn’t be downbeat about his introduction into senior action, as after all he’s barely had much of a kick and it’s hard being introduced to a team that have been extremely inconsistent this campaign.

He’s been a goal machine at youth level in recent years and working hard for the rest of the season should be his aim.

The senior Republic of Ireland international only turned 18 back in February and he just needs to be patient for his serious breakthrough.

It’s been unusual to have so much pressure placed on someone with so little inexperience, but he will come out of the other side stronger and he’s a classy finisher still with so much potential.
