Tottenham fans would love to sign London-born star, after Sunday outing

Conor Gallagher is one of the most in-form English midfielders in the Premier League at the moment after another two goals for Crystak Palace on Sunday evening. The on-loan Chelsea star netted a brace as Palace beat Everton 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Despite being a Chelsea player, Tottenham fans took to Twitter – urging their club to make a move.

Gallagher, 21, joined Palace on loan in the summer. It comes after impressing at Championship level with Charlton and then Swansea, before being one of West Brom’s rare shining lights in 2020-21. But his form under Patrick Vieira has gone up a notch. Already this season, he has produced nine goal involvements in 15 Premier League appearances.

Now an England international, Gallagher has started 15 times for Palace in the league out of a possible 16 – missing only one game due to loan rules preventing him from facing his senior side. His performances are so good, that the London-born ace is already filling Chelsea fans with excitement ahead of next season – when he returns to Chelsea.

But could he actually leave Chelsea permanently? The chances of Gallagher getting the kind of game time he is receiving at Palace, at Stamford Bridge, is unlikely. That is no slight on Gallagher, but more testament to the quality and abundance of midfield talent available to Thomas Tuchel. So much so, that Saul Niguez is struggling to get a game.

Tottenham need midfielders, Gallagher would be perfect

The chances of Chelsea allowing Tottenham to sign Gallagher is almost zero. Not only would the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham prevent such a move given fan backlash, but Chelsea selling to a rival in the league is unlikely. Indeed, Chelsea will be looking at Gallagher’s form and hoping he can have an impact next season.

But Tottenham do need midfielders. Under Conte, they have Harry Winks, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp as central midfield options in his 3-4-3 system. The likes of Gio Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele are arguably too attacking to play such a role. Conte needs hard-working, energetic midfielders in front of his defence.

What are Tottenham fans saying about Gallagher, after Sunday?

As aforementioned, a move would be incredibly unlikely. But Gallagher is the exact type of player Tottenham need in the middle. Not only is he hard-working and a terrier out of possession, but he would chip in with the odd goal or two – like Hojbjerg has done so far. He would be an improvement on Tottenham academy graduate Skipp.

After two more goals on Sunday, Tottenham fans took to Twitter to praise Gallagher – with some stating that he is the kind of player Conte needs at Spurs. Rated at £15million in the summer, his price tag is likely to have sky-rocketed as he continues to prove himself in the Premier League – as well as earning himself an England cap.
