Tottenham fans will be seriously encouraged after seeing what Lucas Moura did in training yesterday - opinion

Lucas Moura is impressing with his defensive work during Tottenham Hotspur‘s pre-season training programme.

Spurs posted a video on their YouTube channel of the players hard at work before their final friendly of the summer.

Jose Mourinho will bring his Roma side to London as the opposition, before the serious stuff starts the week after that.

Antonio Conte has brought in increased quality and depth to the Spurs frontline this summer, with the arrival of Richarlison from Everton.

That has contributed to the decision by Conte to try Lucas out as a right wing-back during pre-season, with the Italian describing it as a ‘good option’.

Spurs of course have a load of options at right wing-back too. Djed Spence has just joined Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty at the club.

So Lucas will not find it any easier to get into the team there, but the signs are that he is working hard to improve his defensive work.

In the latest training video, Lucas earns praise from Tottenham’s coaches for his defensive work, most notably a block near the end of the clips.

That should encourage Spurs fans that the Brazilian forward is adapting well to the demands of his potential new role and embracing it.

It remains to be seen who starts the season as Spurs’ right-wing back, and Lucas may well flit between defence and attack this term.

But if he keeps impressing the coaches in training, it could well be Moura.
