Tottenham fans want key player sold, after one moment against Bayern

Tottenham Hotspur earned a penalty-shootout win to beat Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup final on Wednesday evening in Germany – but Spurs fans have reacted to the display by urging the club to sell Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen, 27, has been linked with a move away from Spurs for much of the campaign – especially after telling Ekstra Bladet that he wants to “try something new” back in June. Since then, no offers have been forthcoming.

That is despite being linked with a move to the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid. The Dane’s contract expires next summer, and there has now been talk he could sign a new deal.

Spurs took a 2-0 lead in the final against Bayern, with Erik Lamela tapping home a superb Georges-Kevin N’Koudou assist. Eriksen himself made it two, lashing home an effort past Sven Ulreich from 12 yards out.

But Bayern came back, and goals from Jann-Fiete Arp and Alphonso Davies made it two each. Eventually, Spurs won the penalty shootout as Paul Gazzaniga stopped Jerome Boateng’s spot kick in sudden death.

Spurs and Bayern both missed one each in the first five, and it was Eriksen who failed to score. Tottenham fans are livid with the former Ajax star for his missed penalty, and rightly so.

To describe Eriksen’s effort as tame would be an understatement. He simply clipped the ball into the arms of Ulreich, perhaps looking to score the penalty panenka style. Instead, he missed, and Tottenham fans are fuming on Twitter.
